What Is GHK-Cu?
GHK is a naturally occurring tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) with a strong binding affinity for copper ions, forming the complex GHK-Cu. Circulating GHK-Cu levels are known to decline with age.
Mechanism of Action
GHK-Cu's copper-binding structure enhances copper transport into and out of cells, which underlies several related downstream effects: anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, and suppression of the acute-phase inflammatory response that drives excess scarring during wound repair. A 2015 broad gene-expression analysis found GHK-Cu modulates over 4,000 human genes, with significant effects concentrated in extracellular-matrix, Wnt, and TGF-β signaling pathways — a scope well beyond a single-pathway mechanism.
